A Life of Service and Dedication to the Church

Marilynn Halasz

We’re all members of the Mystical Body of Christ, which means we’re all brothers and sisters, and that means we should be helping one another.

The Bible is filled with quotes on how we are called to help those in need—to feed, clothe and care for others.

Marilynn Halasz has taken these quotes to heart, initiating them into her daily life—volunteering her time wherever needed, financially supporting the Catholic Church and spiritually supporting others through her prayers. She believes we are all called to be good stewards of the gifts God has given us.

“Take a look at your life and the gifts you have received from God,” Marilynn suggests. “The first step is to realize how fortunate you are. What a wonderful world He has given us. All we have to do is look around at God’s grandeur: trees, rivers, meadows, flowers. These are all signs of His love for us. If we are comfortable, then it is our obligation to help those who aren’t.”

Marilynn is grateful for all she has received and, in thanksgiving, has dedicated her life to service as a teacher to students in grades 6–12 and college, a research librarian, catechism teacher, lector, extraordinary minister of communion and hospital pastoral minister. “God has been very good to me,” she says. “It’s not the amount you give; it’s giving what you are able to give. God knows when we’re being just, and he also knows our responsibilities to our families. However, we have a responsibility to each other, as well. We’re all members of the Mystical Body of Christ, which means we’re all brothers and sisters and that means we should be helping one another.”

Within the Diocese of Joliet, Marilynn generously supports the Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal, Catholic Charities, the Seminarian Endowment Foundation and the Catholic Education Foundation. She has joined the Lumen Christi Legacy Society, a charitable giving program for benefactors who share in the future vision of the Diocese by making a planned gift or estate plan commitment that will continue to support the work of the diocesan church for generations to come.

“Learn more about the Lumen Christi Legacy Society,” Marilynn suggests. “Remember the Diocese in your will. It is a great way to say thank you to God.”

You, too, can show your gratitude and become a member of the Lumen Christi Legacy Society with a gift in your estate plan. To learn more, please contact Jane Lagger at (815) 221-6190 or Jlagger@dioceseofjoliet.org.
